"Sweet Pea" was adopted from the Ouachita Parish Animal Shelter 1 year prior to coming into our rescue program. At the time, she had heartworms and the new owner said that they would take her and have her treated. One year later, and Sweet Pea ended up back at the shelter because the owner could not care for her any longer. And they had never had her treated for heartworms. Sweet Pea was definitely a candidate for our rescue program.
We did not want to see her get put to sleep so we contacted the West TN Border Collie Rescue and they said that they would take her. She stayed in a local foster home while we had her treated for the heartworms (with the help ORVAL who sponsored her treatment) and then she went on her way to the rescue in Tennessee. After staying with the rescue for a couple of months, "Sweet Pea" found a new home where she got her new "leash" on life!
