Lady

Lady was one of our very 1st rescues from the Ouachita Parish Animal Shelter. She was a pitiful sight and it makes you wonder how anyone can mistreat an animal. Lady’s owner dumped her at the shelter with her litter of newborn puppies. Picture 1 above was taken at the shelter…her ribs were protruding, her whole body was mis-shapen. Her ears had been clipped in a homemade fashion it appeared. When I walked by her cage, she lifted herself from the Dogloo which must have taken so much effort considering her condition and she walked towards the gate to meet me. She had the sweetest face and as she looked at me with those brown dobie eyes, it was as if she was asking for help. I contacted the Gulf Coast Doberman Rescue and forwarded them the pictures that I had taken. They immediately said they would take her. Unfortunately her puppies did not survive.

The day came to get Lady started on the transport that would take her to her new life. As she walked slowly out of her cage, you could tell she wasn’t quite sure where she was going but as soon as she saw the open car door, she ran and lept onto the backseat. She laid down and quickly fell asleep. I know that she knew she was safe now and grateful to have been saved. The pictures above are months after the wonderful people at Gulf Coast Doberman Rescue nursed her back to health. Her foster mom fell in love with her and made her a part of her family. This is what rescue is all about.
